Meet our committee

Denise Eyres

Chair

Myself and my husband Brian have been fostering for over 7 years and we have cared for over 25 children. We do this full time together. We have done short term, long term, emergency placements, bridging to adoption, and respite. Two children now reside with us under a special guardianship order.

Every child is different, and it is so rewarding when they learn and develop new skills and accomplishments such as reading, swimming, and riding a bike. I also enjoy helping them become independent with skills like shopping, saving money and cooking.

We have had several children with additional needs such as FASD, ADHD, ASD, Attachment Disorder, learning difficulties, dyslexia and with severe social and emotional difficulties. We have supported children with other health needs that have previously been missed. We have supported other fostering families in ways such as babysitting, respite, support with difficult young ones, crisis, advice, TSD support, Mentoring, Tax return support, help with disability forms etc. We have worked with parents with learning difficulties and vulnerabilities, a parent that is blind. I have also supervised contact outside of my household for other children within the care system.

Deputy Chair

My name is Susan Guy, I've been married to Steve for 33 years, we have 3 grown up sobs and 7 grandchildren.we became foster carers 10 years ago, best decision we ever made. We have had lots of children in our home, but currently have 6 children on a special Guardianship order and 2 children in foster care. I love to cook and bake, and like going on holiday and taking the children on adventures. I love being a foster carer and helping other foster carers in their roles as foster carers.

Craig Metcalf

Treasurer

My name is Craig, I've been a single foster carer in Warrington for 17 years, mainly looking after teenagers although there have been a few younger children too. many of the young people I've cared for have had additional needs, and challenging behaviors, however they have all achieved some success in life, whether it be university or employment. Some including a 20yr old who currently lives with me have enjoyed 'staying put' allowing me to support them right through to full independence. I have an education background working for 11 years as a teacher in school and then up until recently as a tutor with children who were out of school. I've been involved in mentoring, training, marking of TSD's and most recently have taken on the role of Home Hub Carer for Warrington's newest Mockingbird group the Owls

Caroline Whittaker

Secretary

Hi Im Caz I have 1 daughter Abi and live with my husband Ste (step Dad to Abi) .

Love films and tv drams/soaps. Also love Disney and Marvel films.

I have lots of supportive friends and a great family who are always there to support us. Family means everything to me, I am one of four children and my parents have been married for nearly 60 years. Being able to show the children family life is crucial for me.

Love socialising with people old and new. Like to get to know other people's likes and dislikes.

Always happy to lend an ear whenever it is necessary.

I love the winter and going for walks when all wrapped up. I also enjoy holidays abroad and have visited many places. New York is my favorite city.

I have been a foster carer for nearly 2 years now and joined the committee of the Foster Care Association early on. I consider tha what we do is helping bring carers together to share experiences and provide support when needed. I have cared for 3 children so far.

We have dealt with addiction which transpired into lots of challenging behaviours as time went on. Non accidental injuries, where we cared for an 18 month old with a broken leg.

We have recently also transitioned a child to adoption which was a difficult situation but we learned a lot from everything involved.

I always try to engage with the parents of the children we look after so they can get to know me as a person. I consider myself very approachable and will adhere to the requirements of the parents.

During our time our experience has been very positive, and we have formed good relationships with birth families. (including extending family)

Our Goal

Our Goal is to help enable the education, training and support of foster families as well as relief for Looked After Children (LAC) and their families by providing facilities and services in the interest of social welfare. Ultimately, this is all done with a goal to improve the child’s quality of life whilst supporting the fostering family.

WFCA are working hard to raise funds. This is all to show our vulnerable young people that through our offer of support, guidance, and education we can help inspire them to succeed and empower them to build a brighter future for themselves.
